PLATFORM3 is an artists-curators initiative space established in Bandung, 2009. We aim to provide a space for artists to develop their artistic and thematic exploration and experimentation. Through the programs, PLATFORM3 focuses on dissecting and developing artistic process in various practices.
Located in sub-urban area Cigadung, Bandung, we organize art exhibitions, art projects, workshops, art residencies and discussions programs as conjunction of ideas and artistic processes from various art practitioners.
We fund our programs and projects independently through artwork commissions, merchandising, space rent, workshop and event organizing.
Mid 2000, market boom in Indonesia contemporary art led to an urgency to find an art space that provide art practitioners’ need to explore and experiment. In 2009, Platform3 began with three curators and three artists who attempted to construct a space to develop collaborative works. Platform3 started by focusing on solo exhibitions, with occasional group exhibitions, various cooperation with other galleries and artist-in-residency programs.
Exhibitions at Platform3 are named “special projects/presentation”. The artist would respond to yearly theme chosen by board and went through intense discussion in the process of developing idea and making artworks. Artists were encouraged to open his/her own exhibition and then followed by a talk with the attending public. In the talk section during opening, the artists would explain issues and process around the idea of his/her project, related to the chosen annual theme.
In 2014, Platform3 also started to engage more artists in IN SITU (Artist-In-Residency) program. Along with Platform3's mission as a laboratory, IN SITU plays as a model to promote experimentation and intensive dialogue between artists and other art practitioners as points of departure for artist's further development.
